Schiphol, KLM, Rabobank and TU Delft invest in Eye on Air’s technology for the detection of explosives

Enschede – November 22, 2013 ǀ Mainport Innovation Fund, funded by Schiphol Group, KLM, Delft University of Technology and Rabobank, has invested in Dutch technology company Eye on Air. Eye on Air is developing a cutting edge and proprietary explosive trace detection technology. Its primary focus is to improve aviation security.
Eye on Air, founded by two scientists from the University of Twente, is developing an innovative technology for more speed and practical, reliable detection of explosives. The company is working closely with Schiphol Airport and KLM to adapt its technology to the needs of airport and aviation security in the near future. Such a solution aims to inspect the highest percentage of passengers and cargo while causing minimal disruption. Eye on Air’s technology is an enhancement of the well-known Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology and should allow the security screening of passengers and freight in a seamless and imperceptible, yet swift and cost-efficient manner.

Ewout Maaskant, who joins the company as CEO: “The investment is a great vote of confidence in the Eye on Air team and in the technology. Eye on Air will use the investment to progress the development of its security system and to prepare for its commercial launch in 2015.”

Jos Nijhuis, CEO of Schiphol Group: “Schiphol is at the forefront of working with innovators, such as Eye on Air, on the deployment and development of new technologies to address key challenges.”
Erik Swelheim, CFO of KLM: “Eye on Air’s technology has great potential for our security operations. Authorities worldwide are increasingly demanding and keep raising the requirements for airport and aviation security. Eye on Air may help us meet these requirements in the future.”

Bram Ledeboer of Mainport Innovation Fund adds: “Eye on Air is a start-up company with promising technology and an experienced team which is committed to improving airport security. With our partners Schiphol and KLM Cargo in particular, we will support the company’s take-off and help it become a technology leader in the aviation security space”.
